Talk title Calligraphy From Within

Fareed Abdal is a Kuwaiti architect, artist and educator concerned with the material and spiritual development of the Arab world. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture (1980) and a Master of Architecture (1983) from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Between 1989 and 2005 he led his own private practice under the name Fareed Abdal Architects & Consultants. In 2005 he joined the faculty of Kuwait University’s College of Architecture, where he continues teaching today. For Fareed Abdal, the role of aesthetics in reinstating cultural sensitivity in the Middle East is crucial.

Workshop title: Calligraphy From Within

Based on Fareed Abdals Lecture, this workshop will be a series of explorations and approaches to practice that give a glimpse of the potentiality of this experience.  Enabling the participant to make sound choices about their journey in the realm of the arts.   

Exercises will explore the inner experiences dialogs and experiences that will impact the expression of the work and how to overcome internal obstacles.  

Participants are encouraged to bring their sketchbooks, journals and work samples as part of the process.
